MISSION:
The Chicago Urban Art Society (CUAS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 2009 to function as an alternative art space dedicated solely to contemporary art by creative’s influenced by urban landscapes. What began as a market street gallery on Chicago’s south side, the emerging organization with nominal funding serves as an emerging contemporary arts venue in the Chicago-land area. CUAS provides an arena for the presentation, documentation, critical discussion of, and support for a broad variety of visual, media, and performing arts representing a wide range of attitudes. Moreover, the creative-use space offers private event opportunities as well.
SPACE RENTAL HISTORY:
CUAS has a history of interaction with community organizations in an effort to uphold the organization’s mission and identity as a community-wide forum for the exchange of art, ideas, and culture. Organizations and businesses such as the Chicago Mosaic School, Chicago Calligraphy Collective, Chicago Reader Newspaper, Yum Universe.com, Ahhh!!! Pilsen Music Festival, GlitterGuts.com, and many other private corporations and institutions have utilized CUAS’s low-cost rental fees and pleasing venue.
FACILITIES:
CUAS offers a total of 4,250 square feet. Approximately, 3,500 in the main gallery, 250 square feet art room facility and another 250 square footage in the multi-purpose room. In addition to a 75 square foot small room and an in-house wash-out sink room. CUAS is located on South Halsted Street of the highly visible Pilsen community. Located just two blocks south of the Chicago Arts District and around the corner from the Creative Industry Corridor. Dining and bar options include: Nightwood, Skylark, Descolores, Simone’s Bar and Restaurant and Kristoffer’s Café. Convenient parking is available in the rear and non-metered street. Currently, CUAS’s facilities are equipped with an inviting, industrial/warehouse interior equipped with art gallery lighting, which can be re-arranged for numerous events and exhibition needs, heat and air conditioning.
RENTAL EVENTS MAY INCLUDE:
Fundraisers, weddings, launch parties, receptions, book release/signings, conferences, workshops, paneled discussions, arts programming, film screenings, board meetings, one-day art displays, family oriented events, photography sessions, among other approved events.
RENTAL COSTS:
Private/For-Profit events: Space rental fee is $225 per hour including but not limited to rehearsals, set-up, and clean-up time.
Non-Profit events: Space rental fee is $125 per hour for use by 501(c)3 organizations.
Art Room events: Space rental is $35 per hour.
Multi-use room events: Space rental is $25 per hour.
*50% of this fee is required to hold the space. The remaining amount must be paid one week before the event.
* Non-refundable cleaning fee of $125 required for events with 75 or more attendees.
*Fees are negotiable in special circumstances.
*Discounted rates for multiple dates may be available depending upon reservation status.
